Kenya Visa Guidelines

Important information for international attendees of the International Conference on Mammoths and Their Relatives

As of January 1, 2024, Kenya is visa-free for most travelers. Instead of a visa, foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) Requirements

Passport Requirements

  • Valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining from your intended exit date
  • At least one blank page for entry stamp
  • Passport must be in good condition

Travel Documentation

  • Proof of return or onward ticket out of Kenya
  • Confirmed accommodation bookings
  • Conference registration confirmation

Financial Requirements

  • Evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay
  • Bank statements from the last 3 months
  • Credit card statements

How to Apply for eTA

1

Visit the Official eTA Website

Access the official Kenya eTA website. Beware of scams – only use the official government website.

2

Create an Account

Register with your email address and create a password for the eTA application portal.

3

Complete the Application Form

Fill in all required personal, passport, and travel information accurately.

4

Upload Required Documents

Submit digital copies of your passport bio page, photograph, and supporting documents.

5

Pay the Processing Fee

Pay the required fee using a credit or debit card.

6

Receive Your eTA

Once approved, you’ll receive your eTA via email. Print a copy to carry with your travel documents.

Important Notes

  • Apply for your eTA well in advance of your travel dates (recommended several weeks before departure)
  • The eTA is separate from the former eVisa system
  • All travelers, including infants and children, must have an eTA
  • The eTA is valid for tourism or business purposes for stays up to 90 days
  • Confirm specific requirements with your airline or travel agency

eTA Exemptions

Certain categories of individuals are exempt from the eTA requirement:

  • Holders of Kenyan permanent residence
  • Valid work permits and passes holders
  • Citizens of the East African Community partner states (Burundi, DRC, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda) for stays not exceeding 180 days
  • Diplomatic passport holders based on bilateral agreements
