Arriving in Nairobi

What to expect when arriving at NBO:

Travel Tip

Nairobi’s traffic can be heavy during peak hours (7-9am and 4-7pm). Allow extra time for your journey from the airport to the city. The Nairobi Expressway can significantly reduce travel time during peak hours.

Getting to the National Museums of Kenya

Location

The National Museums of Kenya is located on Museum Hill, just outside Nairobi’s central business district. It’s easily accessible from all parts of the city.

From Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Take Mombasa Road toward the city center, then follow signs to Museum Hill. The journey typically takes 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Using Nairobi Expressway: Enter at JKIA or Syokimau and exit at Museum Hill exit. This can reduce travel time to 20-30 minutes during peak hours.

From Nairobi City Center

Head north on Uhuru Highway, then take the Museum Hill exit. The museum is clearly signposted and approximately 5-10 minutes from downtown.

From Westlands or Karen Areas

Use Waiyaki Way (Highway A104) toward the city center and take the Museum Hill exit. Travel time is approximately 15-30 minutes.

Important Note

Nairobi has a well-developed road network, and the National Museums of Kenya is easily accessible from most parts of the city. If using ride-hailing services, simply enter “National Museums of Kenya” as your destination. The Nairobi Expressway is a toll road that can significantly reduce travel time during peak hours.
